Why?

After 14 years of LA, the things we didn't like about living here finally wore us down and we decided to move away. Our first choice was Portland, Oregon. After months of interviewing, neither of us could secure a job. We turned our sights to the next city on the list, New York. We lined up jobs and moved at the end of March 2008.

Apparently this was a bad idea. Things were not as they seemed and New York was not a good fit. We learned some good, hard lessons about life. We moved back to LA (four months later!) because the most important things were:

- be with our friends and close to our sisters
- advance our careers in a market we understand
- enjoy a low cost of living so we can save & travel

This is what makes us happy and apparently we had to move away to get our priorities straight. We still LOVE NEW YORK! We just enjoy it more as tourists...

Me the NYC Worker Bee!

i got into the airport at 5:45am to a LONG double, non-moving line for jet blue. noticed immediately my small rollybag's wheel is busted. looks like the axle is coming out the side. took until 6:30 to get my bag checked - they finally opened up another checker after nearly everyone was cursing them out for lack of proper management of the line. flight was a little bumpy but fine. i got off the plane around 3:30 NYC time, and got to the apartment around 4:45. L, one of the people from work, was waiting for me. she walked me down to show me the brand new and glorious 71,000 sqft 2-story whole foods. i went back for my wallet and unpacked a bit and made a list of supplies to shop. picked up mussels, salad, berries, (bread, bagel & cream chese for breakfast), and a few items for tomorrow's dinner plan of eggplant vermecili. they don't sell wine at the grocery stores here, so i walked home in the rain and stopped at a wine store. made dinner, mussels and salad with crusty bread with some pinot grigio. cursed the dull knives and lack of counter spaces or useful tools, watched last 30 mins of "my big fat greek wedding" and then did yoga and ma roller. unpacked, went to bed around midnight. set alarm for 7:30am with classical music. hard time falling asleep....it's quiet on my street, just different sounds to get used to.
