Why?

After 14 years of LA, the things we didn't like about living here finally wore us down and we decided to move away. Our first choice was Portland, Oregon. After months of interviewing, neither of us could secure a job. We turned our sights to the next city on the list, New York. We lined up jobs and moved at the end of March 2008.

Apparently this was a bad idea. Things were not as they seemed and New York was not a good fit. We learned some good, hard lessons about life. We moved back to LA (four months later!) because the most important things were:

- be with our friends and close to our sisters
- advance our careers in a market we understand
- enjoy a low cost of living so we can save & travel

This is what makes us happy and apparently we had to move away to get our priorities straight. We still LOVE NEW YORK! We just enjoy it more as tourists...

More Progress

Wo-hoo! Okay, maybe not that.

Saturday we slept in, got our car from the garage, and headed up to Queens to secure a new CLOSER storage unit. Then we drove to Carmel (1.5 hours north) to meet Delancey Street Movers once again. We hired them to get our stuff (elliptical machine, skiis/snowboards, and metro shelves) from there, drive to Manhattan and get about 15 boxes or so from the current apartment, (garage stuff, extra blankets, etc) and drive them to the Queens storage. This process took the rest of the day and we barely made it back to the new storage place by 7pm when they closed! Yikes. Anyway, it's closer now and we can access it without an all day extravaganza.

Today we got a *ton* of stuff done. With more space to work in now that several boxes were gone, we were able to unpack about 10 or so more boxes. We moved the couch into position (yeah!) and shuffled some more things to go into storage. Then we headed to the container store and got a metro shelf with a chef block and pot hangers for the kitchen and one for the space on the wall just outside the kitchen that will serve as storage for my large appliances and tupperware. If you haven't been in a container store, you will go NUTS. It's like the storage section at Bed Bath and Beyond but the entire store!! We went to the one in Chelsea and it's friggin' huge. Anyway, we got some much more cost effective storage solutions that aren't hard on the eyes...

Meanwhile, we are continuing to work our normal weekday hours during all this, which is why the move is taking so long. X is 9:30a-6:30p and I'm supposed to be 10a-6p but it's been more like 10a-8p, 10a-10p, or 10am Thursday to 5pm Friday. Anyway, work is still good and maybe you've caught my Exxon commercials on air by now.
