Recently, CBS commissioned a television version of the the radio program, which was taped on tonight here in Los Angeles at the Wilshire Theater in Beverly Hills. We got to go to the taping as VIP guests (our friend is head writer for the TV version) and sit in the front row with his wife and our other friends.
We love the radio show and have been listening to it for years; long before we met the people we're friends with today. It's a funny show and even better live...my face hurt from all the laughing and smiling for an hour. I've never been to a live taping before and at first it was a little distracting and jarring with watching the show, laughing and clapping, and then starting and stopping and doing it again. And I had to consciously not watch the TelePrompTers because it ruined the jokes for me. There are cameras flying overhead, and side monitors showing what they see. There was also a guy with a Steadicam running around in your face and trying not to look directly at that was odd too.
All in all we had a great time and I got to shake Carl Kasell's hand (so soft!).
