Why?

After 14 years of LA, the things we didn't like about living here finally wore us down and we decided to move away. Our first choice was Portland, Oregon. After months of interviewing, neither of us could secure a job. We turned our sights to the next city on the list, New York. We lined up jobs and moved at the end of March 2008.

Apparently this was a bad idea. Things were not as they seemed and New York was not a good fit. We learned some good, hard lessons about life. We moved back to LA (four months later!) because the most important things were:

- be with our friends and close to our sisters
- advance our careers in a market we understand
- enjoy a low cost of living so we can save & travel

This is what makes us happy and apparently we had to move away to get our priorities straight. We still LOVE NEW YORK! We just enjoy it more as tourists...

Family Visit

This weekend my sister and her family came to visit! Friday we ran around at "dog beach" in Long Beach so even little B got to play in the waves with other dogs! Then we went to BBQ for dinner and pigged out. Everyone was totally beat on the drive home.

Saturday morning we went to a French Bulldog meetup for a couple hours in the park and then dropped little B off to snooze for the rest of the day. I took everyone up (caravan style - we don't all fit in one car) to Griffith Park to go horseback riding. They have a place for kids to ride for $2 a ride; they strap them in and go a couple laps around the track. It's easy to stop when they're tired or keep going if they want more. Saturday night we had a BBQ next door at V's place and during the wind-down *somebody* was skating in the dark and fell and chipped his tooth. Bummer! Everyone was okay but that was a signal the night was quite over. Sunday morning we had brunch here and they were off.
