Friday we went to dinner with our friends who live at the Brewery Art Colony in downtown LA. She's a jewelry designer and they've been remodeling their loft for the last year. It's an amazing live/work space with huge windows and brick walls. We caught up with them and then went to noodles downtown.
Sunday we started the day off with Brunch with Pu and then spent the rest of the day at J's in Hollywood. We had an extravagant BBQ with just the three of us which of course began with cocktails. The first drink on the menu was a "Manhattan", made with the finest rye whiskey, vermouth, and Luxardo cherries. Next our host mixed a "Gin & Tonic" with St. Germain Elderflower liquor and it has completely changed my favorite drink into my NEW favorite drink! After that, he made an original "Aviator". This gin based drink is lavender due to the creme de violette and we served it in a champagne glass.
Then we were off to the backyard for the eats. Once the coals were just right we threw on American Kobe Beef hot dogs (Coney Island dogs can kiss my ass!!). These are not just any old dog! These are from Texas Akaushi cattle, 100% pure direct descendants of the Mt Aso region's revered Akaushi herds that are a National Treasure and protected breed by the government of Japan. God damn. To accompany that, we also threw on two burgers from Bristol farms: "black and blue" burger (black pepper and blue cheese), and a cheddar bacon burger. Sausages and chicken kebabs rounded our bellies out for elevensies. Between meals we watched "The Prestige" and "Hot Fuzz" (same team from Shawn of the Dead) in his home theatre on his new Stewart Grayhawk 110" screen. Ah, good times. We made it home around 3am.
