Why?

After 14 years of LA, the things we didn't like about living here finally wore us down and we decided to move away. Our first choice was Portland, Oregon. After months of interviewing, neither of us could secure a job. We turned our sights to the next city on the list, New York. We lined up jobs and moved at the end of March 2008.

Apparently this was a bad idea. Things were not as they seemed and New York was not a good fit. We learned some good, hard lessons about life. We moved back to LA (four months later!) because the most important things were:

- be with our friends and close to our sisters
- advance our careers in a market we understand
- enjoy a low cost of living so we can save & travel

This is what makes us happy and apparently we had to move away to get our priorities straight. We still LOVE NEW YORK! We just enjoy it more as tourists...

About where we're at.

We unpacked like the wind. Our fingers are chapped from handling boxes and tissue paper, our backs are sore, and I've got bruises all over my body (latest count is 8) from navigating the 840 square feet of the apartment in a sea of boxes. We have several towers of boxes and tubs that are designated to go back into storage. We are securing a unit in Queens instead of keeping the one in Carmel. It's just too far! Hopefully we'll get that done next weekend.

Saturday we went to Brunch at The Odeon. Except for the tiny donuts, we were not impressed. Today we ordered dinner to-go at the little place downstairs. We took it and ate on a bench overlooking the water. Beautiful!

We feel like we're about 1/2 done unpacking. I have lost my checkbook, along with all my important ID information that was in a file set aside for a DMV run for NY drivers licenses. Meanwhile we're taking wall measurements and searching for a desk for X, along with storage options for holding our office supplies. We are across the street from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and they deliver for $15. Oh yeah.
